Phishing is a way of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords (logins) and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.
TL:DR, Fake page to make you give the bad guys your logins.
Targeted sites mostly are online banks, emails, facebook and filehosting premium accounts.
How to detect a phishing page:
Be cautious of short URL sites like tinyurl and bit.ly because it's one way to hide the real URL from you.
Therefore, watch where you click and your login details will be safe.

nice guide! good tips
Everytime I see a phishing page, I lol when I look in the URL bar. Some people are good at it though. I got an email saying they caught me trying to sell my world of warcraft account. (I don't have one - lol) The URL was: us.battle.net.worldofwarcraft.account-verify.com/account-confirm.php or something similar. I lol so hard. But nice tips for the people who don't know about this.
I've often wondered how I get caught. Thanks!
I think this is gonna be useful, thanks

I have this tip for years now and it has served me well.
Good advice! Isn't there a way of previewing tinyurls (i think if you put preview infront of the url you can see the acutal site. eg: preview.tinyurl.com) not sure what the protos. for bit.ly are though.
