Since 2007, social networking use has doubled and it's all thanks to sites like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and an array of other social companies reaching record traffic highs.
According to web analytics firm, comScore, the average online user in the U.S. now spends nearly 16% of their time on social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Tumblr or Twitter. That’s an increment from just 8% in July 2007. In the last year alone, social networking use has increased by approximately 25% and a large part of that is contributed by Facebook's 700+ million users.
It wasn't until May 2009 until Facebook finally caught up with MySpace, and ever since then Facebook has stayed on top, while MySpace has experienced a dramatic fall. In May 2011, Facebook had 157.2 million visitors, more than four times the size of Myspace (34.9 million visitors).
Facebook now reaches 73% of the U.S. Internet population each month, while MySpace has lost nearly 50% of its audience in the last year alone. Now users can even sign into Myspace using Facebook.
LinkedIn, Tumblr and Twitter all hit record highs in May 2011. LinkedIn now gets 33.4 million U.S. visitors, more than Twitter’s 27 million and Tumblr’s 10.7 million. Tumblr is the fastest-growing of the three companies though, boasting 166% growth in the last year. LinkedIn’s U.S. audience increased by a strong 58% since last year.

Unbeleivable growth
Facebook is getting too big in my opinion.
facebook is the best, i think so!
yes sadly..
It's crazy how much time people spend on Social Networking sites. They're starting to slowly replace socialising in person which is bad imo.
I agree with Brandon... we're all letting ourselves get too distant from each other in real life. It's kind of sad.
Haha, thats weird, the time I spend on facebook and such has gone down for me.
social networking sites will ALWAYS be popular amoungst social internet users
ya, another perspective to take is the amount of time we now spend on the internet doing non sensible things.
I myself don't care about being social on the internet. For me, it's just an endless source of research.
I don't used these a-social abominations, but i think its evident that they do more harm then benefit on a social level.
I would say more than 1/6
maybe 1/4
We all just want to love, and be loved in return.
This is good to know if your in marketing
How to Hack Life.
It is interesting that MySpace started off with highschool kids and indie bands and facebook with elite college kids. It really shows how college kids drive culture trends more than teens.
Facebook is becoming a monster, zuck's must be filthy rich by now. it's scary to think how much information he has on people.
Facebook is great to communicate with old friends you don't see very often but how can you spent so much time there?
Facebook certainly has a monopoly on the profile sharing market. They've got the features and the finances to back it up too.
absolutely amazing.
Well, I use most of time online for social networking, too.. :P
